It was
Giuseppe Cavalli
, one
of the great photographers of the twentieth century and founder and
artistic director of that privileged photography workshop, the
Misa group
, who sparked off that particular
ambition of Senigallia for photography.
Through his training, a group started in 1953, of young and
enthusiastic artists from Senigallia, who conceived photography as
a creation, gleaning from shapes and colours to express a poetic
universe.
Young talent, such as
Ferruccio Ferroni
and
Mario Giacomelli
shone from the Misa group.
Mario Giacomelli often remembered how in that group, everyone spoke
their own language, humbly considering the subject, free of
political ideas, thinking only of friendship, dialogue, and with
respect for everyone in the face of reality.
Senigallia as a town for photography represents an important idea
of cultural politics that the local council has tried to develop in
the last few years. A project working on three main principles. In
the first place, the potential of Senigallia to host important
photographic exhibitions with great Italian and international
photographers, able to attract an enthusiastic public. Another aim
is, to attract and promote talented photographers, paying most
attention to newcomers to the national and international artistic
scene. And of course the great artistic and cultural inheritance
from
Mario Giacomelli
. Through the exhibitions of
his photographs in the main cities in the world (2007 is the year
of the great American tour with shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, and
New York) we can not only value the work of one of the greatest
photographers of all times, but also to direct the image and
identity of Senigallia , in one of the best possible ways.
